Tommy, I think you'll be surprised when you find out how many people are searching for recipes. I have a recipe site myself and if gets great traffic. If you do your on page optimization as well as create a good page structure you can compete with the big boys. I agree that you might not knock the off their top positions but if you go for the longtail there will be plenty of trafic for you also.

@Martin Hegelund
Can't you just take those data from NNerhverv or places like that?

@Mikael
It's already done. I build the entire site, before I realised how low difficult it would be, to get all the nessesary information from the users :-/

Maybe i'll crack the problem all of the sudden. Of cource I already found a great (used) domainname ;)

But it's a business, that needs something special to survive. Theres to many large placers at this time.

LOL Tommy, it was only a suggestion :)

I imagine that you could set it up so that the user could provide any information that your database doesn't have. That way you could have users generate and update the database for you.

As for measurements I have no clue. I never cook :D

Martin, thanks for sharing. Maybe one could have guessed that the information was a bit old but some of it might still apply.

As for duplicate content I don't think it'll be an issue at all. The thing is to combine multiple databases and that along with difference is webdesigns will most likely not have anything to do with duplicate content.

I've bought three databases from Oddity Software including the Denmark businesses database and I'm overall satisfied. But I guess that the database is about 4-5 years old, because many of the companies don't exist anymore. You won't be able to find newer companies in the database as well.

If you buy the recipe databse (which I've done too) you might face problems with duplicate content and you definately don't want to fight with Google over a problem like that ;)

I have build the website that you describe and found the database... the problem I am facing now is:
What if the user adds a recipt with another ingredients than those in my database?
And are the user able to tell me how many/litres grams each ingredient weights (besides the normal measurement of e.g 2 tablespoons)?

And that is a great thought Brian. But I'll still need to figure out who I would hire to create it because learning it myself would take way to long. :D

This is a great article. And at Oddity there is at a first look two database you could use for your Pet insurance. Pet Kennels and Boarding Database.. and Pet Washing and Grooming Database..
at only 80 dollars... what a great cheap site, with a lot of information you could get, and redirect to petinsurance.
Just a thought ;-)
