Now I hope the title got your attention but this post is not about blogging or even about making money. It is actually about the importance of staying healthy. There are many aspects of being healthy and covering all of them would take forever and that isn’t the point of this post either. The reason I am writing this post is that I recently read a post that Yaro Starak did about how a body in bad shape can harm your business.
Before I dig a little deeper into Yaro’s post I think that you should watch this great video from Food Matters
People just don’t get it
Even for someone like me that really loves the art of marketing I am also ashamed of how effective it can be. Every single day we see how the fast food industry has managed to make people believe that eating their junk is okay or at least not “that bad”. The medical industry has managed to make people believe that when you feel bad you should just take a pill and that it is a natural part of growing older that you feel more pain and have more issues that you should take medicine to deal with. The list goes on and on and it is all bull…
Marketing is fun and can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams but when you use it to hurt people (even if they won’t feel it until ten years from now) I am very much against it.
I really enjoyed reading Yaro’s post and he has a lot of great statements and viewpoint in the post. I am not going to repeat them here but I do feel that there is one thing that he is very wrong about and that is the part of becoming a vegetarian. I understand why he thinks it might be the way to go but I do not agree.
I believe that Mother Nature created humans so that they would eat both meat and plant based foods. Humans are predators and carnivores by nature. Even though eating just plants is probably healthier than eating bad meat (i.e. from corn fed cattle) I am sure that there will be consequences in the long term. Maybe not tomorrow or the day after but in due time the human body will somehow tell you that it was designed to eat a balanced healthy meal of meat and plants. Don’t mess with Mother Nature – She will always win.
It is extremely difficult to eat right
Over the years I have been studying a lot of material about healthy foods and eating right and I have come to a conclusion similar to what a lot of experts have too: It is extremely difficult to eat a healthy balanced meal. Some would even argue that it is impossible.
Not only will you have to pay a lot of money to get the right food (an apple being nice and green doesn’t make it healthy – actually the opposite is often true) but you will also have a very hard time locating it in the first place. You can’t in your right mind believe the smart marketers and their designers that create nice colorful boxes that scream “I’m healthy” to your face. In 99 out of 100 times they are not healthy at all.
Personally I have chosen the path of adding nutritional supplements to my meals. It might not be the perfect solution but it beats most of the things that are easily available in today’s society. Before you start arguing that eating healthy balanced meals are possible without supplements, please answer this question:
“When was the last time you had ALL the different colors of fruit and vegetables for breakfast?”
And if you are one of the few that can actually name a date, please take it one step further… did you do it for 30 days in a row?
If your answer to any of these questions are “no” then please explain to me why you think that your body will be at its best when the most important meal of the day does not contain ALL the scientifically proven vital ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibers that it needs to be at its best?
Whatever you decide to do is all up to you but I hope that you will give it some thought and not buy into all the brilliant marketers’ ads. Make living a healthy life a study and start before it is too late.

Cool Michael. Det virker og giver din blog en godt personligt præg. Sådan.

What do you mean Pete? That the headline worked or? But thanks anyway!
Yes, that too. But too that the content is outside of what your normally write about - at least in this blog. I like that.

Oh that… well thanks. I just felt that I needed to talk about this as (which I know you know) I daily talk to a lot of people that are just so misinformed about nutrition. It isn’t fair to just blame the marketing guys because in the end it is the directors, the board and in the end the shareholders (which actually are the people that are ending up being misinformed in the end) that wants their company to make more money and that is the easy way to do it. Sad but true…
Just to add a little note that if someone wants the whole film on DVD, you can get it here…
